Right Choice For Kitchen Utensils

Picking your cooking utensils is a personal thing. But the first decision you need to make is what material to choose. Gleaming stainless steel seems so solid and enduring. Wood-especially higher quality like olive or beech looks timeless and homey. Plastic looks, well it books serviceable and easy. The trick is to decide which material is best for you. Here is  quick overview of the pros and cons of metal and wooden versions.

Kitchen utensils are a key tool for anyone planning to become more self reliant by learning to cook from scratch. What type of utensils to buy can be little of overwhelming. There are few absolute basic like a ladle, a large flat spoon, spatula, slotted spoon and a fork. Toss in a whisk and some measuring spoon and kit is probably sufficient to living simple. At least, basic knowledge about kitchen utensils you should know. It will effect you daily day on kitchen.

Everyone needs these and it is probably all one really need to have. But eventually you end up with a huge variety of gadget. To be honest, the type of utensils one buys is really a matter of how much stuff you want to shove in your drawers. Space issue will come out later if your not focus on it. That why you need to find out what is the best utensils for your kitchen.

  1. Wooden utensils are often relegated to the role of decor in many modern kitchens. Wood is not only attractive and traditional, it is really a marvelous material for the basic items one needs in a home kitchen. Due to the floor of cheap imports made from cheap soft woods, wooden utensils have gotten a reputation for being porous and quick to stain. For good wood like olive, maple or beech when choosing wood as your material. Although, cheap wooden ones can be made serviceable if you heavily coat them with mineral oil as soon as you buy them. The point is to saturate the grain with clean, safe oil before they can get clogged with messier ones. It is the simple principle behind seasoning cast iron. It will work, but it is best to buy better wood if this is your choice.
  2. Metal utensils come in two basic versions. Aluminum alloys and stainless steel. Avoid aluminum as your utensils. Because aluminum is conducts heat to quickly and is possibly a health hazard. Stainless steel is superior on grounds of heat, durability and ease of cleaning. A good set of stainless steel will last forever. Why add flimsy rubber handles or wood. The rubberized stuff will get tacky and discolored in no time at all.
  3. Plastic is the last choice. It has many reason to not chose it.  It is flimsy, it is easily discolored and trends to get grainy as fast as cheap wood. But, plastic does have it virtues. Namely it is economic to buy for the new cook and it easy to clean. It will not rust or stain if you leave it in a sink of dirty dished overnight.
Just keep in mind the practical different between the three materials and buy set that you need. It is fine to mix and match if you sense of aesthetics will allow.

DIFFERENCES BETWEEN ALUMINIUM AND STAINLESS STEEL

Aluminium and stainless steel might look similar, but they are actually quite different. The metals look similar but they different in that one is an alloy while the other is not. They also different in terms of composition, density, strength etc.

Aluminium is typically not as strong as steel, but it is also almost one third of the weight. This is the main reason why aircraft are made form aluminium. Aluminium is an element. It not a combination two element like in the case of stainless steel. Stainless steel does not rush or corrode easily like other metals. Aluminium has a high oxidation and corrosion resistance mainly due to its passivization layer. The amount of chromium used varies from 10 to 30 percent. Chromium is used so as to make the metal anti - corrosive and rust resistant. Chromium reacts with air to form an oxide film which protects the steel. Stainless steel has a variety of applications including those found in home and restaurant kitchens for making appliances such as rice cookers and utensils.

Aluminium is a bit weaker as compared to stainless steel. Aluminium is fairly soft and easier to cut and form. Due to it resistance to wear and abrasion, Stainless can be difficult to work with. Stainless steel is very strong and heavy.

Aluminium is available cheaply and it does not require much processing. It's also good conductor or electricity, hence it is used in making power cable. Aluminium has a much better thermal conductivity (conductor of heat) that stainless steel. One of the main reasons it is used for car radiators and air conditioning units. Aluminium does not rust due to the formation of an oxide coating on it surface. Aluminium preferred in making boilers and other heating vessels since it does not react with the contents, and conducts heat effectively. Stainless steel is a really poor conductor compared to most metals. Aluminium is a very good conductor of electricity. Due to it high conductance, light weight, and corrosion resistance, high - voltage overhead power lines are generally made of aluminium.

Stainless steel, on the other hand, is expensive due to the lengthy refining process and alloying. In most cost conscious projects such as construction, aluminium is used instead of stainless steel. Aluminium is typically cheaper that stainless steel.

Stainless can be used at much higher temperatures that Aluminium which can become very soft above about 400 degrees.

Laminate flooring vs Vinyl Flooring

Looking for laminate floor or vinyl floor? Many are mistaken among laminate flooring with vinyl flooring.

Laminate Flooring

Laminate flooring has a hard surface that looks like a wooden floor (like tile) and is made of recycled wood. It looks like a hardwood floor but a fancy version that might against scratches. The floor size is about 8mm to 12mm and can be placed on the existing floor, whether it's concrete or hardwood tile. Laminate flooring is a "lockable" floor and click together in its place. Because it is made of recycled wood, it is not waterproof. It also not suitable to be installed in areas where moisture or moisture accumulates such as basements or bathrooms.

  • Floor Condition :
Hard Surface, but the bottom of the floor is quite smooth. If it is steep or undulating, it may be cracks or breaks.

Vinyl Flooring

Vinyl flooring made of synthetic that look exactly like hardwood or tile. Most vinyl flooring in glue is directly below. You can get vinyl flooring in various patterns and your floor will look like real wood and luxury. Unlike laminate flooring, vinyl flooring has waterproof resistance. However, vinyl flooring is not able to withstand the stagnant water stagnant or rubbing on surface (cleaning process). This is because the adhesive under the vinyl floor is not waterproof and sometimes the vinyl floor is attached to the plywood, if the board is submerged with water, the sub-floor can expand. Installation of water is not recommended at all. Vinyl flooring quality affect the vinyl surface itself, if exposed to sunlight for long period of vinyl flooring can be faded. However, the vinyl flooring is more flexible and soft, facilitating the installation process on a corrugated or steep surface. And the home surface should be smooth so that the floor installation process is easy and tidy.
